Who He Is
Jake St. Peter started Untaught to explain the money lessons most people never got in school: how inflation eats savings, how debt really works, how compound interest grows small amounts, and how to start with a few dollars a week.
His professional background is in web design and digital marketing. He co-founded the web design company Coalmarch Productions in 2003, and in 2011 he launched Dirigo Creative, the Raleigh digital marketing agency he owns today.
He has written publicly about Bitcoin since at least December 5, 2017, when he published What is Bitcoin and Blockchain and Why is it Important? on his personal site (archived copy).
What He Oversees at Untaught
- ■The editorial direction of the site: which topics Untaught covers and how they are explained.
- ■The editorial standards every article follows, from which sources count to how corrections are handled.
- ■Every article on the site. He is responsible for what is published under the Untaught name.
- ■Corrections. Errors reported to info@getuntaught.com are checked and fixed, and the article's updated date changes when a fact changes.
How Untaught Articles Are Checked
Every factual claim is backed by a primary source: Federal Reserve data, Bureau of Labor Statistics reports, Census and FDIC figures, Federal Student Aid publications, peer-reviewed research, or official data from financial institutions. Statistics are cited inline with the year of publication.
Before an article is published, each number, date and named source in it is checked against the source it cites, and anything that cannot be confirmed is cut. Every article shows the date it was last updated, and articles are updated when the underlying data changes.
The full process, including how sources are ranked, is on the Editorial Standards page. More about why the site exists is on the About page.
Education, Not Advice
Untaught is not a licensed financial advisor, and nothing on this site is personalized financial advice. The articles explain how money works so you can make your own decisions. For advice about your own situation, talk to a licensed professional.
